Deciphering Unexplained Symptoms Workshop
Thursday 29th April 2010, 13:30 -17:00
This 1/2 day workhop, will provide practical tips when encountering patients with unexplained symptoms. Areas to be covered in this workshop include:
- How to approach discussing the diagnosis
- Improving communications skills
- Language used
- The benefits of encouraging a partnership
- How do cope with difficult patients
- Management approaches including the use of CBT
The workshop will also explore specific issues including:
- How do we get a headache when the brain has no pain receptors?
- Why symptoms may mean dis-ease rather than disease
- Why those with dis-ease also get disease and how to help them with education in wellbeing
The workshop, priced at only £55 will take place at the 52 Club, 52 Gower Street, London

Mindfields College: psychological insights and practical skills courses
Mindfields College exists to deepen our collective knowledge of the science of human nature and to apply that knowledge to improve effectiveness and raise standards in healthcare, education and social care policy throughout the country.

The MS Society has a limited number of bursaries to assist with fees for courses at Leeds Metropolitan University & Birmingham City University. We will pay up to half your course fee. BSc Specialist Practice in Health and Social Care

GM6412 Developing Specialist Practice in Health and Social Care Relating to MS
22nd February - 14th June 2010
This is a distance learning online module open to all health and social care professionals working within the area of Multiple Sclerosis who are looking to examine and develop their role within specialist practice. The student is not required to attend the university. The clinical examples will be in the management of MS. The training and education that is provided within this module should enable the practitioner to develop their competence and confidence to deal positively with a range of different aspects within their specialist role and enable them to evaluate their practice. It will further support them as they work within the dynamic and challenging health and social care climate.
GM 6562 Multiple Sclerosis: Therapeutic Interventions in MS
22nd - 24th March 2010 (plus 2 days e-learning)
This module will enable the health and social care professional to examine the evidence base surrounding not only symptom management but also the newer and diverse approaches to MS management. There is an opportunity to explore self-help and self-management strategies and how these can influence living with MS. It will present an in-depth evaluation of the national policies and guidelines affecting the MS community and will help to support you as you work within a dynamic and challenging health care agenda.
GM6561 Multiple Sclerosis: Psychosocial Perspectives in MS
25th - 27th November 2010 (plus 2 days e-learning)
This module will allow the student to explore issues around the psychological assessment that needs to be carried out with people affected with MS. There will be a variety of experienced tutors who will work with the students to explore cognition issues as well as depression. There will be further scope to debate issues surrounding sexuality and relationships areas that are often neglected despite the fact they can have far reaching implications. Gender issues will also be discussed.
